the global political economy of seed suggests that the scientific impulse towards the classification of nature leads to its destruction - killing the flower in grasping it to see what it is... because science is predicated on their being one correct way of seeing the world, making it ultimately intolerant of diversity..... BUT in the present situation of trying to reverse/spell out/understand this situation, science is required i.e. to know that a species is becoming extinct we must know that it exists in a separable form in the first place. this problem is manifested at Seedy Sunday seed swap in terms of wanting to swap seeds without classification but then risking pollution across different strains which defeats the purpose of trying to preserve certain varieties in the first place so, is the motivation of Seedy Sunday ultimately coming from the wrong place.... should want a system of agriculture where pollution is not even worried about....such things happen, this is how NEW varieties are created...therefore the problem lies in the conception of change and the desire for preservation might be too tightly clinging to one situation in the same way as science, why stop anywhere? >>>> Masanobu Fukuoka Sitting quietly, doing nothing Spring comes and the grass grows by itself How to do something while doing nothing?
